Athletic cups are a necessary piece of gear for nearly every martial arts (some grappling arms, like jiu-jitsu, do not use them because having hard material on a competitor’s body could give that person an unfair advantage). However, if anyone training in an art with kicking or striking should wear a cup, even if they do not plan on sparring.
